Carrie Loranger is a Substack strategist who helps creators and solopreneurs grow on Substack and turn one newsletter into multiple income streams.
In 2018, I was traveling overseas when I became paralyzed due to Guillain-BarrΓ© Syndrome β a rare neurological disorder that hit without warning and put me in the hospital for weeks. I had to relearn how to walk.
When I finally got home, I went back to my corporate job as a marketing director. But something had shifted. Daily pain made the long hours harder, and the experience of being completely financially dependent on one employer while my body was failing me hit differently than I expected. I realized my financial security was built on a single source of income I had no control over. I wasn't okay with that anymore.
So I left. I built a solo consulting business, then started layering income streams on top of it: digital products, a newsletter, courses, coaching, sponsorships. Within two years, I had a six-figure portfolio business running across multiple channels β most of which didn't require me to trade every working hour for every dollar earned.
My Substack newsletter became the lead engine for all of it. Now I teach other creators and solopreneurs to build the same thing.
I work with three types of people:
Who wants a safety net. You have a stable job and you're grateful for it β but somewhere in the back of your mind, you know that one paycheck is one layoff away from a real problem. You want to build something on the side that generates income and reduces your financial exposure, without burning out or quitting before you're ready. That's exactly what the portfolio business model is built for.
Who's ready to build something real. You're already doing the work β selling something, writing something, coaching someone β but it feels scattered and unpredictable. You need a system that turns what you're already doing into a repeatable, scalable business with multiple income streams instead of one-off wins.
Who wants to diversify. Maybe you already have an audience or a newsletter, but you're leaving money on the table because you don't have the right offer stack in place. You're ready to go beyond a single paid tier and build a real portfolio of income: digital products, high-ticket services, passive assets, recurring revenue.

Newsletter growth systems that turn readers into customers
Revenue models that create passive income (paid subscriptions, digital products, courses)
Systems that scale and keep your business manageable without requiring 40-hour weeks
The mindset required to build a portfolio business instead of a single income stream
I didn't read about this in a book and build a course around someone else's framework. I lived it first, then taught it.
I grew my Substack newsletter from zero to 8,400+ subscribers. I landed in the Top 50 Substack Business leaderboard β not through viral moments, but through consistent niche content, strategic growth plays, and an offer stack designed to convert.
I built six income streams from a single newsletter: paid subscriptions, digital products, courses, coaching, consulting, and sponsorships.
The result is a 6-figure portfolio business that doesn't depend on any one stream, any one client, or any one platform. And more importantly β it doesn't require more hours to earn more money. That's the whole point.

When I'm not building or teaching, I'm traveling β usually with a camera. I have a thing for photographing trees and buildings in interesting places. It's my version of slow. If you want to see how this all works in practice, the best first step is subscribing to the free 9-to-Thrive newsletter. I'll see you there.
