The 6 Types of Content That Actually Grow Your Business

January 25, 20254 min read

If your marketing feels random, this will help.

Let me guess—you’re posting, emailing, and maybe even blogging, but it feels like you’re just throwing stuff out there hoping something sticks.

You’re not alone.

Content marketing can feel like a hamster wheel. You keep showing up, but there’s no real traction. The leads trickle in slowly, and you start wondering if you’re wasting your time.

I’ve been there.

When I first started creating content, I had no strategy. I’d post whatever popped into my head, hoping it would magically lead to clients. Sometimes I’d get engagement… but it rarely translated to actual business.

Here’s the truth: Not all content is meant to do the same thing.

Some content attracts attention. Some builds trust. And some directly leads to sales.

Once I understood this—and aligned what I created with the different stages of the funnel—things finally started to work.

Here’s the breakdown of the 6 types of content that drive real results:

Top of Funnel (Attract Attention & Build Awareness)

Goal: Get people to notice you and understand what you do.

1. Short-Form Social Content (Posts, Tweets, Reels, etc.)
Social media isn’t where most people buy—but it’s where they discover you. This type of content is designed to spark curiosity and pull people in.

  • Share quick insights, bold takes, or relatable stories.

  • The goal? Stop the scroll.

  • Example: A post about “The 3 biggest mistakes people make when trying to scale their business.”

👉 Why it works: Short content grabs attention fast and introduces you to new audiences regularly.

2. Long-Form Articles (LinkedIn, Blogs, Medium, etc.)
While social media gets people to notice you, long-form content makes them stay. This is where you show depth and authority.

  • Write how-to guides, case studies, or in-depth problem breakdowns.

  • Example: “A Step-by-Step Guide to Growing Your Email List from Scratch.”

👉 Why it works: Long-form content helps potential clients see you as an expert, which moves them closer to trusting you.

Middle of Funnel (Build Trust & Nurture)

Goal: Keep people engaged and deepen the relationship.

3. Email Newsletters
Social media is crowded—email isn’t. Once people know you, regular newsletters keep them connected to your brand.

  • Share personal stories, behind-the-scenes insights, or actionable tips.

  • Example: “3 Marketing Experiments I Ran This Month (and the One That Flopped).”

👉 Why it works: Email gives you direct access to your audience without fighting algorithms, creating a personal and ongoing relationship.

4. Webinars or Live Trainings
Want to fast-track trust? Go live. Webinars let your audience interact with you in real time, building a connection quickly.

  • Host a free live Q&A, tutorial, or mini-workshop.

  • Example: “How to Craft an Irresistible Offer in 60 Minutes.”

👉 Why it works: Live content lets people experience your teaching style and personality, breaking down barriers fast.

Bottom of Funnel (Convert & Sell):

Goal: Turn interest into action (and paying clients).

5. Case Studies & Testimonials
By this point, people know you—but they need proof. Case studies, client wins, and testimonials show that you can deliver real results.

  • Highlight client transformations, revenue growth, or key wins.

  • Example: “How I Helped a Consultant 3x Her Income in 90 Days.”

👉 Why it works: Seeing real-life results helps potential clients feel more confident about working with you.

6. Direct Offers & Sales Pages
Don’t be afraid to sell. Clear offers with a strong call-to-action push your audience to take the final step.

  • Share limited-time offers, direct pitches, or packages.

  • Example: “I’m opening up 3 slots for 1:1 strategy calls next month—here’s how to book.”

👉 Why it works: People need to be told exactly how to work with you. Don’t make them guess.

Why This Works Together:
Think of your content like building blocks.

  • Social posts pull people in.

  • Emails and articles build trust and keep them around.

  • Case studies and offers seal the deal.

If you’re only creating one type of content—like posting on social media but neglecting email—you’re leaving gaps in the funnel.

When your content aligns with every stage of the journey, your audience naturally moves from “Who is this?” to “I want to work with them.”

The Takeaway:
If you’re feeling stuck, stop asking “What should I post today?” and start asking:

  • Am I attracting, nurturing, or selling with this piece of content?

  • Which part of my funnel feels empty right now?

Fill in the gaps, stay consistent, and watch how your audience (and business) starts moving forward.
